Celebrations for Wyre Forest’s only outdoor nursery following a 'good' Ofsted inspection.
The World Outside Kindergarten has been given a ‘Good’ grading by Ofsted following its recent inspection. The outdoor nursery which opened its doors two years ago is the only one of its kind within the Wyre Forest.
Situated in the grounds of Baxter College, Kidderminster, the nursery provides funded early education for 2 – 4 year olds as well as operating as a forest school.
As part of the report, the Inspector said: ‘Staff provide a wealth of accessible resources that stimulate children's curiosity and support all areas of learning.’
The children made a special banner to celebrate their success. Nursery Manager Kelly
commented, ‘I am extremely proud of our staff who work incredibly hard to create such a wonderful learning environment for the children.’
The report also stated that staff ‘support children to be resilient and persevere’ and ‘promote children's independence.’
The outdoor nursery was set up by local Forest School Leader Sandra Hill in 2021. Sandra was already running a very successful Forest School business in Kidderminster when she decided to set up the outdoor nursery. She said, ‘I have witnessed first-hand the impact that learning in an outdoor environment can have on children and the benefits it can bring to a child’s physical, emotional and mental health. There was no outdoor provision for this in the Wyre Forest so I set out on a mission to create one. Baxter College proved to be a perfect location – in the heart of the town yet with a wonderful woodland haven where we have created this special place.’
The Ofsted Inspector backed up these sentiments by stating, ‘Parents describe the setting as a calm, special place, where their children thrive.’
The nursery is open Monday to Friday, all year round, except for a week at Christmas.
