Our Food and Nutrition Approach

From September 2025, all nurseries and early years settings must follow new national guidance on food and drink. This is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which keeps children safe and healthy.

Here’s what it means for your child at our setting:

  • Balanced meals – We provide healthy, home-style meals with fruit, vegetables, protein, and wholegrains. Sweet puddings are no longer served; instead, children enjoy fresh fruit, yoghurt, or similar lighter options.

  • Healthy drinks only – Children are offered milk or water throughout the day.

  • Nutritious snacks – Snacks combine fruit/veg with foods like rice cakes, wraps, or cheese, to keep energy levels steady.

  • No cakes, sweets or chocolate – These are not permitted under the new guidance.

  • Allergy and dietary needs – We work closely with parents to create individual food plans where needed. Staff are trained to recognise and respond to allergies and to make mealtimes safe.

  • Safe mealtimes – Children eat sitting down with close adult supervision, helping keep eating safe and sociable.

Our aim is simple: to give every child safe, healthy, and enjoyable food each day, building good habits for life.
